*Kathmandu, Nepal – September 18, 2023*

The much-anticipated 2023 Asian Games, officially known as the XIX Asian Games and branded as Hangzhou 2022, are just around the corner. Scheduled to be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, this pan-Asian multi-sport event promises to be a spectacle of athletic prowess and cultural exchange. For sports enthusiasts in Nepal, here's how you can catch all the action from this grand event.

Originally slated for September 10 to 25, 2022, the Asian Games were postponed to 2023 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The rescheduled dates were announced on July 19, 2022, much to the relief and excitement of athletes and fans alike. Hangzhou 2022 will mark the third time China has hosted the Asian Games, with Beijing hosting in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.

During the first Games World Broadcasters Meeting held in the host city on January 25, 2022, Chinese state broadcaster China Media Group (CMG) was named the event's host broadcaster. This means that CMG will be at the forefront of delivering the Asian Games to television and digital audiences around the world. The International Broadcast Centre will be constructed at the Hangzhou International Expo Centre, ensuring top-notch production and coverage.

For sports enthusiasts in Nepal, the broadcasting and digital rights for the Asian Games 2022 are held by Sony Sports Network in the entire Indian Subcontinent. This means that you can watch the Asian Games in Nepal by subscribing to Sony Liv or tuning in to Sony Sports Ten 1, 2, and 3. Please note that Ten 4 is not available for viewers in Nepal, as it is primarily focused on the Tamil and Telugu regions of India and Sri Lanka.

While it's not confirmed yet, there's a possibility that the government's national broadcaster, Nepal Television, might also broadcast the Asian Games. This speculation is based on the fact that Nepal Television, along with NTV Plus, NTV News, NTV Kohalpur, and NTV Itahari, aired the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Private broadcasters in Nepal have been hesitant to broadcast the event due to the high cost of acquiring rights from Indian channels like Sony, whereas the government is eligible to broadcast for free from authorized sources.

Nepal is sending a strong contingent of more than 234 athletes to the Asian Games. The teams participating include the Men's cricket team, Women's football team, both Men's and Women's volleyball teams, and the Women's Kabaddi team. Additionally, Nepal will be represented in Basketball and Handball by the Women's teams. What's particularly exciting is that esports, featuring popular games like PUBG and FIFA, has been included in the Asian Games for the first time, and Nepal is participating in this emerging sport.

In a country known for its deep love for sports, there is hope for a best performance from the Nepali athletes at the 2023 Asian Games. In the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Nepal secured one silver medal in paragliding, but this time, paragliding is not a part of the event. Nevertheless, the spirit of Nepal's athletes remains high, and they are ready to give their best in this prestigious competition.

As the Asian Games draw near, the City Sports Network wishes the Nepali athletes the best of luck. The entire nation eagerly awaits their achievements and memorable moments on the global sporting stage. Stay tuned to Sony Sports Network, and let the games begin!
